MS TechEd 2012 Day 2 Recap

Hello again from MS TechEd 2012.

Yesterday (Day 2) was another exciting and exhausting day.  The sessions were top notch as usual and yesterday was a bit more System Center focused for me.  My current responsibilities at my job “encouraged” me to venture into the System Center talks.  I have to say that having used SCCM and SCOM in the past, the 2012 versions look promising to say the least.  The Orchestrator product is the automation piece that i feel has been missing a long time in the system center platform.  Microsoft has really knocked it out of the park with that product and better yet…. it all runs on top of Powershell and just uses SCCM and SCOM for the plubming.  BRILLIANT!

Last night was also an amazing time.  We had a commmunity event from 6-9 that was just fabulous.  I split time between the Server 2012 tables and the Powershell Area.  The Server 2012 tables was also the area for System Center and the Microsoft Reps were very knowledgable and had great tips and tricks.  Then once I was able to finally decipher the table layout, I found my Powershell peeps.  Sitting around a table with the likes of Ed and Teresa Wilson, Jeff Hicks, Bo Prox and Jason Hofferly was just an amazing experience.  Those guys have such a vast array of knowledge that is all tied together by this single paassion.  It is really amazing how Powershell allows AD guys to talk shop with SQL guys and Group Policy Admins to talk geek with Developers.  Powershell, I feel, has really bridged the gap that siloed Microsoft Technologies for far too long.

After hours was not without it’s fun either.  Catching up with some Microsoft buddies and talking shop over a cold one is never a bad time.  Spent some time with the Tampa IT Pro Evangelist Blain Barton and some of this cronies.  He is a class act and is by far one of the most personable Technical Resources I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with.

It was a very long but fulfilling day and now we are already into day 3.  More to come!  The takeaway from all this…. If you can attend one of these events DO IT!  It it very much worth it 🙂
